Sitting unassumingly across the road from the Sun and Doves, Su-Thai is in danger of being overlooked, which is a real shame because this is a little delight of a restaurant. Granted we felt apprehensive when peering through the windows to see only one seat occupied, and that by a lady talking loudly on her mobile phone, but the tasteful, atmospheric decor and the flickering candles and fresh flowers on intimate tables lured us inside. We were welcomed very warmly and when their other customer finished her phone call, the low music created a wonderfully warm and romantic atmosphere. Their menu is extensive, the wine list well considered, and their food the most authentic Thai you will find in Camberwell. We ordered stir fried bean curd and vegetables that was described as some of the nicest cooked bean curd one of our party had ever had, perfectly complemented by the crisp, delicate vegetables. We also ordered pad thai which was as excellent an example of this Thai staple that one could wish to find. The waitress was attentive without being intrusive, and when one of us ordered beer, she gave us two bottles as she felt they were too small. It is testament to the atmosphere and hospitality that we did not feel uncomfortable despite being at one point the only diners in the restaurant. However it is a real shame that this place is not busier as it offers some of the best food in Camberwell, in one of the most attractive restaurants. We hope this restaurant will fill up now that the secret’s out; it certainly deserves every customer.
