Special guests for your entertainment pleasure:
Michael Twaits
Michael Twaits has been described by Time Out as "here, queer and unquestionably talented". He is a well-respected gay performance artist, actor and writer, and was most recently seen locally in 'Confessions of a Dance Whore' at Oval House Theatre. He is a South London lad and we are rather lucky to have him as compere for our lovely Launch Party!
Stella Duffy
Stella Duffy is a much loved author of a large variety of novels and short stories. As a Loughborough Junction dweller, she has a penchant for all things South London, and indeed her most recent book, The Room of Lost Things, is set in this very neighbourhood. She is also a stage performer and her performance at the York Lesbian Arts Festival in a gay version of Pride and Prejudice is remembered particularly fondly...
Paul Burston
Paul Burston is a writer, DJ and editor of the gay section of Time Out. He also runs the fantastic literary salon Polari and is a curator of The House of Homosexual Culture. He has written a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction books, and a great number of articles for various newspapers. He lives in Oval and is happy to support gaycamberwell.com
Adam Mars-Jones
Adam Mars-Jones is a writer and critic who has twice been nominated one Granta's top 20 British young novelists. He writes fiction and non-fiction, and has been film critic for The Independent and The Times. He contributes to The Guardian, The Observer, The Times Literary Supplement, and BBC newsnight. He lives in the Camberwell area.
Breathing Space
Breathing Space is a 7-person south London acappella group singing original compositions of jazz and pop classics... and a special Gay Camberwell composition!
Uncle Jane
DJ Uncle Jane is best known for her DJ-ing at Lounge and Moona clubs, as well as our own fair Camberwell (where she has also been known to do lesbian cabaret and promises to do so again soon). Tonight she brings us some tunes... we might not be able to resist dancing!
Foyles bookseller
The lovely people from Foyles will be in attendance, selling the latest books by our authors, plus lots more gay-themed books, so if you're in a book buying mood, look no further than the book table for all your gay book needs! You can even get them signed.
