Funky Munky

Funky Munky has a particular vibe that never really struck me as a dining establishment. The music is loud, the cocktails are plentiful, the crowd of the unpretentious student variety (note they offer a student discount), and there are DJs late into the night at weekends. In the quest for a light, laid back bite to eat at a good price one evening, we ventured inside and were not disappointed. The décor is vaguely jungly and slightly tatty, with chunky wooden tables. The candles on the tables and boardgames and newspapers indicate that this is a venue where you could comfortably nurse a beer over the Sunday papers. It’s counter service, and while not especially speedy, we got there in the end. The menu has standard gastropub style options; we went for nachos, a halloumi and hummus wrap with chips, and a thai chicken wrap with chips, respectively, and none of us were disappointed. The food tasted fresh and was cooked well, tasty and attractively presented. In fact we believe the nachos may be the best currently available in Camberwell. This is not fine dining, but for gastropub style food at a good price in a pubby atmosphere, Funky Munky is a pretty good bet.
