A little corner of Italian bonhomie in the heart of Camberwell, Caravaggios is one of the nicest surprises for sceptical visitors to Camberwell, and an addition which has lured more Camberwellians away from the stove. Deli, lunch venue and coffeeshop by day, restaurant by night, this place is always bustling and with good reason. The staff are welcoming, the food is good and the prices are reasonable. Dishes are meat, fish or pasta-based, with a surprising lack of pizzas on the menu, but are of a uniformly high standard and always accompanied by good wine, though the wine list is less extensive than you will find in some of the neighbouring venues. The desserts are always a particular treat. The staff are so friendly that you will immediately feel you are a regular... and if the food and ambience are anything to go by, this is an inevitable outcome. Indeed, perhaps the only flaw is the paucity of vegetarian options on the menu. With flamboyant and ornate decor, a visit to Caravaggios feels like, and indeed is, an occasion.
